I originally painted the Birdman 20 years ago when I began and curated the Space Gallery located in downtown Detroit. He has currently reappeared on my psyche and in my paintings on a daily basis. This blog documents the exploration.

Birdman Evolves 007
This is an acrylic painting 6" x 8" on canvas board mounted on stained pine firring strips. The goal is to paint one painting a day. The bird turns into a man or the man into a bird. Who knows. Anyway they seem to be hanging out in this one. This currently at auction on ebay. If you are interested click the above link. Thanks for looking!

Bird Watcher 01
This is an acrylic painting on sheetrock, 6" x 8" mounted on firring strips and framed by the artist with old house lathe, sanded and stained. The painting was treated with acrylic gloss varnish. The Birdman is evolving on his own. The imagery is allowed to emerge in a natural and gestural fashion and these birds and faces begin to emerge. I then make aesthetic decisions to make this a complete strong work. My backgrounds are inspired through studying the techniques of Victor Brauner although this piece seems to be all background. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any comments or questions don't be shy. This is on aucton at ebay for 7 days. If you wish to view click on the above link

Evolution of the Birdman 001
This is an acrylic painting on canvas board 6" x 8" mounted on a wood frame that I made with firring strips and old house lathe which is 7" x 9". The painting was treated with acrylic gloss varnish. This started out as a man with a hat. I do not edit the imagery much and these birds and faces begin to emerge. I then make aesthetic decisions to make this a complete strong work. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any comments or questions don't be shy.
